Music Matinee would like to express its gratitude on behalf of all Melbournian’s who enjoy Live and Free Concerts in The Scots’ Church on Tuesday’s. Our vision would have been impossible to implement without the wonderful support of these organisations.

The Scots’ Church

The Scots’ Church in Collins St was built in the era of marvelous Melbourne in 1874, designed by architect, Joseph Reid, who gave the City so many of its wonderful landmarks . Music Matinee has cherished its relationship with Scots’ and our artists and all who share our concerts, have appreciated the quiet beauty and peace of the gothic Church itself.

From its inception music played a prominent part in Scots’ Church life . Today Scots ‘ hope that those who enjoy the atmosphere and find the time spent enables them to find rest, refreshment and blessing.

The Scots' have been most receptive to Music Matinee conducting our concerts in their gracious church, and we are most grateful to Scots' for the support they have given us.

When reflecting on the joys experienced in the partnership of Scots’ with Music Matinee perhaps its best to leave the description to Douglas Lawrence, the wonderful Director of Music at Scots, who said “ music expresses the inexpressible “

Australian National Academy of Music - ANAM

ANAM - Odd name perhaps but to classical music lovers in Melbourne precious beyond belief. We have fought for it, donated to it and above all traipsed all over Melbourne to wonderful concerts by its musicians, so it is so special for Music Matinee that we are privileged to have their musicians perform for us at Scots Church twice a year.

It’s a rare thing this professional training institution for musicians where overseas and local experts not only teach but play alongside their charges. It helps produce musicians able to take their place in orchestras, chamber ensembles, to play as soloists and to take on the task of passing on their musical knowledge to the next generation.

We are fortunate at Music Matinee that a raft of past ANAM musicians have volunteered their time and talent to perform at our concerts.

We believe that ANAM is worthy of support, in any way our members are able, so it may long continue to assist young Australian and New Zealand musicians to achieve their dreams.

Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School - VCASS

Music Matinee has been honoured to partner with Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School to present a warm and welcoming audience for their extremely talented and enthusiastic young musicians. Dr Julie Haskell is the Instrumental  Studies and Chamber Music Coordinator and has been a tower of strength in helping us put concerts together with Dermot Tutty and the VCASS choral students.

We are extremely fortunate to have such a first class institution as part of our schooling system that develops and deepens the individual talents of students and especially gives them opportunities to perform in chamber groups. We thank everyone for the joy of music they share with us all. We are looking forward to many delightful Music Matinee concerts performed by musicians from VCASS for we know the dedicated approach of this school and the talent of their students.

Music Matinee Musicians

Music Matinee would not exist if it was not for the generous and ongoing support of very many gifted musicians who offer their time and talents freely to us all in the joy of sharing their passion for music.

They come to us from a variety of backgrounds some are seasoned professional performers and teachers, including overseas professionals, some young capable students making their way in the art of music performance and composition, others are dual professionals for whom music remains their passion.

Whatever their background, all take great joy from music performance, from sharing their knowledge and talent with us while introducing us to new works as well as delighting us with old favourites. We are ever in their debt and thankful to them for enriching our lives through this musical journey.

Melbourne Conservatorium Of Music

Situated in its state of the art new home The Ian Potter Southbank Centre The Conservatorium is now located in the heart of the Creative Arts Centre Of Melbourne. It joins it sister organisation The Victorian College Of the Arts with whom it forms the Faculty Of Fine Arts and Music at the University Of Melbourne.

Under the Direction Of Professor Richard Kurth this has enabled this venerable institution to forge new partnerships and we urge all our supporters to check out their concerts both at their new Southbank venue and the old beloved Melba Hall.

We would especially extend our thanks to Glenn Riddell for his work in coordinating the students who perform for us at Music Matinee as well as giving them all a very warm welcome.
